Tom Hunter was born 1965 in Bournemouth. His photography shows us how life really is. He references important paintings from art history by recreating them into modern versions of the factors explored in paintings. The "stories of our time" are being created by Hunter. In snapshots he captures life in Great Britain. They portray the lives of who we can relate to.
On the left is a painting by Vermeer titled "A Girl Reading at an Open Window". On the right is Tom Hunters' modern photographic interpretation of the painting titled "Woman Reading Possession Order", adopting a similar composition taken in 1998. Narratives like this spark reality and the audience engage in what is happening, they may relate to the story being told. The photograph is part of a series he made of a group of squatters in Hackney.
