La Jetee

In the initial briefing we looked at the film La Jetee. This french film is made up of still black and white photographs. The title in English reads "The Pier" or "The Jetty". It tells of a post war nuclear time travel experiment. The man in the film is a prisoner underground, being experimented upon with others by scientists looking at time travel. He meets a women from his memory and develop a romance. When he returns to his past he finds her on the jetty.

Looking back it has made me understand the relationship between still photographs and narrative more. My own circular narrative images will have to connect and fit so the audience can collate a narrative from frame to frame, as the film "La Jetee" had the help of a voice over telling the story, whereas for my narrative the audience will have to see into the story for themselves.

This film will also relate to my circular narrative because both narratives have memories being important in the narrative itself. Memories will be less significant in mine as it is about a frozen family moment in the photograph my character will find which will connect the two characters and therefore flats.
